After the Kundalini Awakening in October 1985, I returned to the task of applying to architecture schools.

 

This particular image was drawn to satisfy the requirement for RISD's application to the School of Architecture. I created it as an expression of my desire and deep inner longing to become an artist and an architect. Once submitted, and accepted to RISD, I didn't think much about it for many years.

Then, in 2008, 23 years after I had drawn the "Self-Portrait", I was reading a fascinating book by the acclaimed Energy Healer & Teacher Barbara Brennan, entitled "Light Emerging".

Near the end of the book on page 298, I came across the following description....

​

"Imagine a point of energy...on the midline of your body about 1-1/2" below your navel. This point is the center of gravity of the physical body. It is the "TAN TIEN"....It is usually gold...in this exercise you will make the Tan Tien red....Align your body on a plumb line with the Earth...Now bring your awareness to your upper chest area, about 3 inches below the hollow of your throat and again on the midline of your body. Here is a sphere of diffuse light. This light carries the Song of your Soul, your unique note that you bring...It carries the longing that leads you through life to accomplish your soul's purpose.

Place the fingertips of both hands into the soul seat in the upper chest...when you connect to it, it may feel like a balloon is expanding in your chest. It may feel very safe and sweet there. Feel the sweet sacred longing as it rests within you... IT MAY REMAIN NAMELESS...it looks like the diffuse light around a candle, but it is [also] purple/blue in color."
